I am honored to have been chosen to be the second Director of Bands in the history of Chisholm Trail High School. I have spent the last twelve years teaching in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District, having spent 6 years as Percussion Director and 5 years as Assistant Band Director at Saginaw HS and 6 years as both Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at Chisholm Trail High School. Prior to coming to EM-S ISD, I previously served as a percussion instructor at the University of Arkansas, Abilene Christian University, and at Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma. 

I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music from the University of Arkansas, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Abilene Christian University. My professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, the Percussive Arts Society, Phi Mu Alpha professional music fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi band service fraternity, Golden Key National Honor Society, and Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society. 

Since 2009, I have been married to my wife Robin, with whom I have two children, four-year-old Chloe and two-year-old Daphne. We are members of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills. In my "free time," I am an avid reader, and I enjoy running, as well as rooting on my alma mater, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, at every opportunity.


Hannah Stephens, Assistant Director

Mrs. Stephens' has been with Chisholm Trail High School for 5+ years, and currently assists with the wind ensemble and symphonic bands, while directing the Jazz Band and Concert Band. She resides in Keller, TX with her husband, Matt, percussion director at Keller Central High School.  


Todd Marchand, Assistant Director

Todd Marchand has been named Assistant Director of Bands at Chisholm Trail High School, joining the staff of Director of Bands Derrick Doyle and Assistant Director Hannah Stephens.

Mr. Marchand has worked with directors and students in the EMS-ISD since 2013, most recently as Instrumental Specialist for Chisholm Trail High School and Ed Willkie Middle School, where he assisted with band rehearsals, performances, and competitions as well as teaching beginning low brass classes. Previously, he taught private lessons, conducted master classes, and coached student chamber ensembles for middle and high schools in the district.

Mr. Marchand earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from Texas Christian University, where he performed as a trombonist in the university bands, jazz ensemble, and orchestra, arranged for the marching band and jazz ensemble, and served as a graduate teaching assistant. He has written and arranged warm-ups, daily drills, technical studies, and original music and arrangements for marching and concert bands and has published more than 100 pieces for instrumental soloists, brass ensembles, woodwind ensembles, and choirs.

A member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Mr. Marchand holds active teacher certifications in Secondary Music and Secondary English/Language Arts. He has taught English, Journalism, Photojournalism, Media Literacy, and SAT Preparation courses and has coached students to district, region, area, and state honors in both academic and music competitions.

Mr. Marchand’s wife, Becky, is an elementary music teacher in the Azle ISD. Their family includes sons Brendan and Colin, daughter-in-law Payton, and grand-daughter Parker.


Maverick Peterson


Maverick Peterson is a musician that has served as a professional educator and composer for 10 years. An accomplished expert in his profession, Maverick has taught and consulted for over 50 marching percussion ensembles, composed and arranged well over 100 shows for the marching arts, and composed music for several independent short films and media projects. As a prior member of the Insignia Indoor Drumline, Surround Sound Percussion and Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, Maverick makes sure to always spread his expertise while seeking additional knowledge.

Maverick currently serves as the owner and primary music designer at Maverick Peterson Creative, LLC where he composes, arranges, and creates sound effects for indoor drumlines, winterguards, and marching band percussion ensembles. He also acts as a consultant to numerous marching bands, helping them to incorporate electronics into their programs and streamline their front ensemble’s setup.

Before being named the Percussion Specialist for Chisholm Trail High School, he was the Assistant Percussion Director at Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. In 2017 Richland placed 6th out of 250 bands in the 2017 UIL State Marching Band Contest. In 2016 they won the PAS Percussion Ensemble Competition and was invited to perform at the PAS International Convention. From 2013 to 2015 he was the Front Ensemble Coordinator, Composer and Electronics Designer for Vigilantes Indoor Percussion, winning Open Class at the WGI Championships with the highest score in history in 2016. From 2014 to 2017 he was on staff with the Blue Devils B Drum and Bugle Corps. He became their Front Ensemble Arranger and Co-electronics Designer in 2016. The group won the DCI Open Class Championships, along with the best percussion award in 2014 and 2016.
